PF/CHM Grogged Red (0-1.5mm) Earthenware Clay (Cone 07-04) 12.5kg

$25.00

Red earthenware clay with 20% fine grog 0-1.5 mm (up to 12 Mesh). Ideal for large pieces.

The presence of grog provides the clay with an interesting textured surface (not flat) which, in turn, provides a body more resilient to deformation and cracking.

Available in an extruded body, being suitable for sculpting and modelling.

Firing range*: 970-1055ºC / Cone 07-04
Water content (throwing): 19%
Plasticity (IP Atterberg): 14
Carbonate content (CaCO3): 8%
Drying shrinkage: 4.9%
Firing shrinkage 1000ºC: 0.3%
Porosity (water absorption) at 1000ºC: 14.3%
Dry bending strength: 5.6 N/mm2
Fired bending strength 1000ºC: 22.7 N/mm2
Thermal coefficient 1000ºC (25-500ºC): 73.2x10^-7ºC^-1

(*) Firing range recommended for the clay to develop its best performance, both in terms of technical and safety characteristics, under conventional firing conditions. The colour samples may show temperatures outside the recommended range to provide a broader view, but these are pieces fired under controlled conditions. Cone equivalence according to Orton table for self-supporting cones, regular-SSB and 150ºC/hr heating rate.
